About Head and Neck Cancer
The term \”head and neck\” includes several regions where cancer can develop. Head and neck cancers refer to tumors that develop in one of these regions:
- oral cavity (tongue, the top area of the mouth, the lower area of the mouth, tongue base, tonsils, lips);
- the anterior region of the mouth or throat (oropharynx);
- Lower throat (hypopharynx)
- upper throat (nasopharynx);
- larynx (including supraglottis, glottis, and subglottis);
- salivary glands;
- nose and sinuses.
Although these types of cancers are different, they are treated similarly, so they are considered as a group. Except for cutaneous and thyroid cancers,> 90% of head and neck cancers are squamous cell carcinomas, and the rest are generally adenocarcinomas, sarcomas, and lymphomas.
Other head and neck tumors are:
- Intracranial tumors in adults
- Intracranial tumors in children
- Thyroid tumors
- Tumors of the orbit and cancers affecting the retina
- Acoustic Neurom
- Skin cancer
