Ovarian cancer occurs to you when the cells inside your ovaries multiply and divide in an unregulated pathway.
Here are the risk factors that are remarkably associated to the causes of ovarian cancer that you should know:
Family past medical history
Families with history of breast or ovarian cancer have a greater potential risk of developing cancer. Regular cancer screening and check-up is advised.
Age
Ovarian cancer is rare in women under the age of 40 and most common in ages over 63 years.
Reproductive history
Women who have had one or more full- nine months pregnancy have low risk to develop ovarian cancer and especially those who had pregnancies before the age of 26 years.
A woman who has multiple pregnancies before the age of 30 has a reduced lifetime risk of developing ovarian cancer. Breastfeeding is also associated to reducing risks of developing ovarian cancer.
Birth Control
Using birth control contraceptive pill method for about 3 to 6 months is linked to reducing risks of ovarian cancer.
Fertility drugs
Use of fertility treatment and drugs for over a year is linked to higher risks of ovarian cancer.
Obesity (increases risk)
Obesity can be a risk factor to ovarian cancer, therefore maintain your weight safely.
Hormonal medication (increases risk)
Gynecological Surgery
Undergoing surgery of your reproductive organs reduces the risks of developing ovarian cancer.
Surgeries that are linked to lower risk of ovarian cancer:
- Tubal ligation surgery (closing fallopian tubes)
- Hysterectomy (removing whole uterus)
Endometriosis
