Many factors determine the survival rates of prostate cancer, other than skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer among men. In the United States, an estimated 174,650 men will be diagnosed with the disease in 2019 and approximately 60% of these cases are diagnosed in men over 65 years. Moreover, the average age of diagnosis is 66. Prostate cancer has a 5-year survival rate, which depicts that the percent of men live at least five years after the disease has been diagnosed. This is on a 100 scale. This rate is however for most men that have local or regional prostate cancer, which is almost 100%.
In case prostate cancer has spread to other parts of the body, the 5-year survival rate is 30%. Being the second leading cause of cancerous death in men in the U.S., about 31,620 deaths from this disease will occur in 2019. Yet, about 3 million survivors of the disease exist as of today.
